Visual Studio 2015

Windows.

For a long time I tried to resist the temptation to switch to a madExcept subscription style license. But I finally have to give in now, because the number of license sales isn’t as high as it used to be, while supporting and maintaining madExcept still requires the same amount of work as always. So starting now, a new madExcept license will give you 1 year access to all minor and major updates/upgrades for free. After the 1 year period, you have the option to extend your subscription. If you don’t, you will still be able (and allowed) to use all madExcept versions that were released within your subscription interval «forever». However, you will no longer get access to new madExcept builds released after your subscription has run out. Considering that there are no new show stopper features on the radar right now, I’m setting the yearly subscription rate to a relatively modest 30% fee (of the price of a new license). To ease existing madExcept users into entering subscription, I’m now releasing madExcept 5.0, with a couple improvements over 4.x. The list of changes is relatively short, though, which means I will not ask for an upgrade price. So in a sense the upgrade to 5.0 is «free». I do, however, ask that you enter the yearly subscription now, which will give you access to 5.0. If you’re ready to support my work, you can enter subscription right now, for a Single Developer License here, or for the Company License here. Thank you very much! If your madExcept 4.x license is younger than 1 year, please contact me to get a free new 5.0 key file with the appropriate time on the subscription clock. madExcept 5.0.0 comes with the following changes: · added support for Delphi/BCB 10.3 Rio madCodeHook 4.1.2 comes with the following changes: · [driver] optimized image load notification handling for older OSs |

Today madCodeHook 4.1.0 introducess an optional new DLL injection technique: The new technique has a couple of advantages and disadvantages compared to the «old» one. Because of that the old technique stays the default. The new DLL injection technique works by modifying the EXE’s import table in such a way that the OS loader believes that your hook DLL would be statically linked to by the EXE. This brings us the following advantages: There’s no free lunch, unfortunately, so the new DLL injection method also comes with a couple of disadvantages: Another bigger change is that the DLL injection driver now supports storing the public key of your signing certificate. Let me explain why this is useful: Recently, Microsoft changed their EV signing procedure. They used to just add their own certificate to your’s. But now they completely remove your certificates in some situations, which makes madCodeHook’s driver unable to successfully match the driver’s signature with the hook DLL’s signature. I’ve made 2 changes now to work around this problem: Please note that some of these changes are going rather deep, so although in my tests everything worked nicely, please consider the new features somewhat «experimental». Which means I’d recommend that you test them throuroughly yourself before using them in production software. I’m optimistic about that they work well, though. |

Today madCodeHook v4 introducess a relatively «big» new feature: You can now register a user mode callback, which the driver will call for all newly created processes which match your injection criteria. Your user mode callback then has the option to approve or reject DLL injection for each newly created process. Please note that this kind of callback from a driver to user land, which delays the start of new processes, is not recommended by Microsoft. So use this new feature at your own risk! It seems to work pretty well, though. If you do use this feature, please make sure your callback executes as quickly as possible, to avoid any unnecessary delays for newly started processes. Furthermore, both the new madCodeHook v3 and v4 build now disable the «parallel DLL loading» feature of the Windows 10 OS loader, for any processes we inject our hook DLL into. «Parallel loading» basically tries to initialize newly created processes in a multi-threaded way. This OS loader feature can make problems if DLL injection and API hooking is used. Consequently the OS already disables it itself in certain situations. Now madCodeHook does that automatically, which should help Windows 10 stability. Please note that madCodeHook 3.0.18 is probably going to be the last v3 build! I will concentrate on madCodeHook v4 development and support now. Which means if you haven’t upgraded to v4 yet, now might be a good time. To make your decision a bit easier, I’m reducing upgrade pricing from 60% (of the price of a new license) down to 50% for the next 2 weeks. This price includes one full year of subscription. After that year has passed, you can optionally renew the subscription for a yearly payment of 30% of the price of a new license. If you’d like to upgrade from v3 to v4, please contact me via email, thank you! Now here comes the usual detailed list of changes: madCodeHook 4.0.5 comes with the following changes: · added support for driver DLL inject approval callback madExcept 4.0.20 comes with the following changes: · some small leak reporting bugfixes madCodeHook 3.1.18 comes with the following changes: · avoid crash when uninstalling API hooks in Edge |

· new «permanent» dll injection option survives reboots A more detailed description about the various improvements is available here. I’ve decided to move to a subscription based licensing model. Please don’t worry about it, I think the terms and conditions are more than fair. My pricing math works out like this: If I release a major new upgrade (madCodeHook 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 etc) every 2 years, and ask for a 60% upgrade price every time, this sums up to the same 30% yearly subscription rate I’m asking for now. And you can just let the subscription run out at any time and you’re still allowed to keep using the version you’re on forever. There are a couple different reasons why I’m switching to a subscription model: For one, it gives me a more predictable income. Furthermore, I don’t have to save major functionality improvements for the next major upgrade, anymore. Instead I can now constantly and regularly work on improving madCodeHook, which should be a benefit for everyone. Finally, I hope that including a reasonable yearly payment into your budget might be easier than fitting in a much larger upgrade price every other year. The exact terms of the subscription model, with full upgrade pricing etc is explained on the shop page. If you have a need to discuss this payment model change, or the upgrade pricing, please feel free to contact me email. I’m open for discussion and reasonable arguments. |

Sometimes, you can’t remove or delete a file because you don’t have ownership rights to do so, and here comes the obvious question, why don’t I have the right to delete a specific file or folder? The short answer is that your files or folders may have been created in the past when you had a different operating system than the current one, so the files are compatible with that previous version of the operating system but not with the current version, so you must first give ownership through the installed operating system Currently on your device, and only then you can delete any private files with ease, just follow the steps as follows:-
Step 1. Choose the file or folder you wish to delete and right click on it.
Step 2. Select Properties from the context menu, and the file properties window will appear immediately.
Step 3. Go to the “Security” tab, and click on the “Advanced” button.
Step 4. When you go to the advanced security settings window, you will
discover the owner of the file under the name “Owner”.
Step 5. In
some cases, the OS name is written as the owner name, or other times it
appears as “TrustedInstaller”, however, now just click on the “Change”
button next to the owner name.
Note: TrustedInstaller is a built-in
Windows account responsible for removing and modifying updates and various
other essential components. So if you find the file owner name is
“TrustedInstaller”, it is best not to change or delete it; Because that
makes the file system more unstable, so change the name from
«TrustedInstaller» to something else. If you know exactly what you’re doing,
be careful applying the steps.
Step 6. Inside the “Enter the object name to select” box, enter a new username and press “Check Names” to check whether it is ok or not, finally, click “OK” to save the changes.
Step 7. Go back to the advanced security settings and you will notice a checkbox named “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”, simply tick this checkbox, click “Apply” to save the changes, then “OK”.
Step 8. Now exit the file properties window, and restart your computer.
Step 9. Now open the properties of the file you want to delete again by right-clicking on it, and choose from the “Properties” menu, then go to the Security tab, and then click on “Advanced”.
Step 10. Again, under the “Permission” tab, check the “Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object” option.
Step 11. Next, click on the Edit button below it, and in the Permission window, select the Full Control option and click on OK.
Now try deleting the file or folder again, this time for sure the file will be deleted without any problem.
Delete Locked files by disabling the antivirus
Antivirus is a
necessity in every computer, antivirus software contains many useful
tools and features that help protect files and folders from any virus or
malicious software, sometimes you will not be able to delete your files,
where there is another possible reason, which is that your Antivirus prevents deleting some files, if you are having trouble deleting your files, you need to check your antivirus software once, even this type of software causes problems and prevents you from deleting files and folders.

madExcept not working on 64 bit build
Hi madschi,
not too long ago we purchased the company license for madExcept.
Just ran into one problem.
We are now switching from XE-2 to XE-10.
madExcept works well in XE-10 Win32 builds.
We just created a Win64 build of our software (XE-10 only).
The problem is that the madExcept box does not appear, but the standard delphi exception box shows up.
The source code for Win32/Win64 is basically the same. Win64 is just a new build configuration.
We can build our software with the Delphi IDE (XE-10) or via MS-BUILD. For the later case we use the madExceptPatch.exe tool.
madExcept works well for Win32 version (IDE or MS-Build built), but the Win64 build does not work in either case.
We manually link in the madExcept code in our base package (bpl) and distribute the madExcept bpl’s along with our product:
Code: Select all
requires
...
madBasic_,
madDisAsm_,
madExcept_;
I looked in the registry [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREEmbarcaderoBDS17.0Known Packages] and found this:
I imagine these entries originate from the madCollection installer. They do refer to the 32 bit versions of the bpl.
Maybe this is somehow causing a conflict? I don’t think so (as they are irrelevant for MS-BUILD) but I can’t think of any thing else.
Any idea what could be wrong? Does anything specific need to be done to enable madExcept for Win64 builds?
Thank you!
** EDIT **
The build configurations settings are identical except for the obvious x86-x64 differences.

Have you tried compiling within the IDE as a test to check if it’s working correctly then?
The «Known Packages» are those loaded by the IDE and the IDE is a 32bit process, so everything is correct there.
When compiling with MS-Build, you need to manually make sure that the compiler and linker options are set correctly. Basically you need to enable most of the compiler debug switches (except for stack frames, which are not needed), but you can disable all the linker debug options. Except for the map file which needs to be set to detailed.
One thing worth trying:
1) Create an empty file «madExceptWizard.txt» on your desktop.
2) Run madExceptPatch.exe as you usually do for the 64bit build.
3) Zip the text file and attach it here, then I can have a look.

Hello madshi,
yes the problem happens if we compile from either the IDE or via MS-BUILD. 32 bit builds work fine in either case.
I did the following.
I copied the following files into a folder which I will upload for you:
madExceptPatch.exe
CoreBpl.mes (MES file we use for the Core.bpl file which required _madExcept,bpl)
Corex64.map (linker map file generated for 64 bit build)
Corex86.map (linker map file generated for 32 bit build)
madExceptWizard.txt (empty file which needs to have the map file appended to it)
I opened a command prompt and cd’d into this folder.
I then ran:
Code: Select all
C:TempdeleteMemadExcept>madExceptPatch.exe madExceptWizard.txt CoreBpl.mes Corex64.map
Result:
map file appended
Code: Select all
C:TempdeleteMemadExcept>madExceptPatch.exe madExceptWizard.txt CoreBpl.mes Corex86.map
Result:
map file appended
however in both cases the madExceptWizard.txt remainded 0 bytes in size.
You can download the zipped folder from here:

Thx!

Please don’t add madExceptWizard.txt as a parameter to madExceptPatch. Simply run madExceptPatch exactly the same way as you always did. Does the madExceptWizard.txt file fill then?

Ok, now can you please send me (madshi (at) gmail (dot) com) your 32bit + 64bit EXEs and BPLs (those BPLs where you’ve enabledmadExcept)? I don’t plan to actually execute them I just need to look at their resource sections and dll imports. Please RAR them, with a password that also encrypts the file names, then rename the extension to .dat, otherwise gmail will refuse to accept the attachment. Thanks!
P.S: I mean everything full patched with madExceptPatch.exe, so that you *think* they should work, but only the 32bit works but not the 64bit.

Ok, having checked all your files, it all looks «correct» to me, so right now I’ve no idea why exception catching doesn’t seem to work. Have you tried raising a simple test exception, e.g. a «raise Exception.Create(‘test’)» in a button click event? That doesn’t work, either?
Is there any chance you could try to reproduce this problem in a brand new test project somehow? If I could reproduce it on my PC, it should be easy to fix.

Hello madschi,
yes I that is exactly how I was testing
Code: Select all
procedure TApplicationManager.CloseActiveJob;
begin
raise Exception.Create('Testing madExcept');
In 32 bit builds the madExcept box shows, but not on the 64 bit build.
Am relieved that all seems to be correct, as I have double checked everything multiple times trying to find the error.
I will create a new test groupproject setup in a similar way. Hopefully I can reproduce the error there.
I’ll get back to you as soon as I have something.
Thx!
