Step 1: Reset the Windows Store Cache

Press the Windows Logo Key + R to open the Run dialog box, type wsreset.exe, and then select OK.

Note: A blank Command Prompt window will open, and after about ten seconds the window will close and Microsoft Store will open automatically.

Step 2: Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter

Select the Start button, and then select Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters , and then from the list select Windows Store apps > Run the troubleshooter.

Step 3: Check DNS Settings

· Click on Search, type CMD, Run Command Prompt as Administrator.

· In the Command Prompt window, type ipconfig /flushdns

· Press Enter.

I would also suggest you to change the DNS and check if webpages load.

3. Now, right click on the connection that you are using and click on Properties.

4. Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

5. Click on Use the following DNS server addresses, and enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Step 4: Remove Proxy server.

1. Press Windows + R key to open Run command

2. Type inetcpl.cpl and click OK

3. Now select Connection Tab.

4. Click on LAN Settings and uncheck the box beside “Use a proxy server for your LAN”

Step 5: New user account

We would suggest you to create a new user account with administrative rights and then sign-in to Microsoft Store only, then try to install the game. Creating a new user account will not remove any data, app or settings from your current user account, this is just a troubleshooting steps to eliminate the possibility of user profile corruption. Hi, maybe someone had this issue and could help? I just bought xbox game pass for PC and I am trying to install Forza Horizon 4 (through xbox program and ms store) and after downloading 40-100MB (30 seconds). I get error 0x80073cfb. This is only happening with Forza Horizon 4. Everything is fine with all other games (I tested Forza Motorsport 7, Human Fall flat). I have tried everything from resetting Microsoft store to reinstalling windows. The reason behind this might be that I had a cracked version of fh4 1 year ago. Thank you. In the PowerShell Window type this command and press Enter:

4. Select Power and Restart on your Start menu to reboot.
   
5. Open PowerShell again after restarting Windows.
6. To reinstall MS Store, input this command and press Return: Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml”}
   

Should I reinstall Windows 11/10 to fix this?

Some users have said reinstalling Windows has resolved the 0x80073cfb Microsoft Store error for them. So, that might be a potential resolution worth considering. As that’s a very drastic potential fix, however, it should only be a last resort if other alternatives don’t fix the issue.

If you must reinstall Windows 11/10, we recommend you do so with Reset this PC. With that utility, you can restore Windows to its factory defaults and preserve user files (you’ll still need to reinstall software). I am running an Insider Preview version of Windows 10 (1809 build 18305.1003 when I write this). Not sure if this has to do with the store error but this workaround should work on all builds should you encounter this error.

Symptoms:

I wanted to download the “Daily Desktop Wallpaper” application from the Windows Store, or Microsoft Store as the program is called. The download starts and then stops, eventually timing out and resulting in a Windows Store Error 0x80073cfb. Restarting the download results in the same error message, over and over again.

I tried several workarounds and “fixes”, but none worked.
This next method worked for me.

Download and install Fiddler (https://www.telerik.com/download/fiddler) if you don’t have it installed yet.
When it’s installed click “WinConfig” (if this is the first time Fiddler runs, it will open with the WinConfig dialog), and select only Windows Store.
This will tell Fiddler to only monitor web traffic from the Microsoft Store program and ignore anything else.
Click “Save Changes” and close the WinConfig dialog.

If Fiddler already captured some entries, remember which is the last one, or simply clear everything first, using CTRL+X (Edit -> Remove -> All Sessions).

Switch to the Windows Store program and retry your download. Immediately pause the download when it starts to download the first couple of KBs.
Leave the Store application open.

Switch to Fiddler and find the first HTTP 206 entry. It looks something like this:

Right click this entry and select Copy -> Just URL.

Close Fiddler, open a browser and paste the URL.
If you copied the correct URL a text-file download should start.

Save this somewhere where you can find it. I downloaded to C:temp. The file will be a .txt file, but it really is an .appx file. There’s no need to rename it though.

Now open an administrative PowerShell prompt and navigate to the location where you saved the .txt file.

Type “Add-Appx” and press tab. Then type the first couple of letters for the .txt file name and press tab again. This should give you something like

Add-AppxPackage .cc0f1e96-8dc5-46f8-b54a-9f51ebeb1f67.txt

Then press enter. This will install the AppX package and you can now find it in your Start Menu and run it.

Closing and opening the store will then also show that the application is now installed and can be launched.

The reason you need to keep the Store application open on the paused download is that you need a valid license file for the downloaded AppX package while you install it. The download in the Store application takes care of that.
